Pet Wellness Services in Ocala
At Town & Country Animal Hospital, we are committed to protecting your pet's health and happiness. Because prevention and early detection saves lives, we offer the following pet wellness services. These recommended services will help you protect your pets from diseases, parasites, behavioral problems, and more.
Routine Wellness Exams
We recommend wellness visits at least once a year for every dog and cat. During these appointments, our Ocala veterinarians perform thorough physical exams and make sure your pets are up to date with all their core vaccines and intestinal parasite tests. We also perform blood and urine tests to screen older pets for age-related conditions. It is also important to have preventative tests done annually such as heartworm exams.
If your dog or cat gets separated from your family, collars and ID tags may not stay intact. That's why we always recommend having your pet microchipped. Microchips are tiny computer chips that contain your name and contact information, and after we inject them under your pet's skin with a tiny syringe, they will stay intact for life. Accidents happen, but animal hospitals and animal shelters can scan microchips to reunite lost pets with their owners immediately.
Dog and Cat Vaccinations
Vaccinations are your pet's best defense against preventable diseases, and we recommend the core vaccinations (rabies and distemper) for every dog and cat we see. Start your puppy or kitten's vaccination schedule as early as eight weeks and receive a booster up to twenty weeks of age). After that, the pet will receive vaccines around 14-16 months and then the vaccinations are boosted as needed depending on your pet's vaccine schedule to keep them up-to-date for the rest of their life. In addition to the core vaccines, which are mandatory for boarding purposes, we will complete an at-risk questionnaire to see if your pet would benefit from additional vaccines (e.g. lepto and bordetella).
Spay & Neuter Surgeries
At Town & Country Animal Hospital, we urge all pet owners to get their pets spayed and neutered. Shelters are already overcrowded with dogs and cats because of overpopulation, and you can do your part to save lives by preventing your pets from breeding. These routine procedures also significantly reduce your pet's risk of breast cancer, prevent male dogs and cats from marking their territories, cut down their urge to escape, and curtail female pets from developing painful uterine infections.
Nutritional Counseling and Specialty Foods
